The Importance of Choosing Eco-Friendly and sustainable Fabrics in Fashion

As a fashion brand that sources all of its material by upcycling vintage denim, casual wear, and real military overstock, You The Brave understands the importance of choosing eco-friendly fabrics and natural dyes in fashion. Here are some reasons why eco-friendly fabrics and natural dyes are essential:

  • Reduced environmental impact: Eco-friendly fabrics are made using sustainable and ethical practices that minimize their impact on the environment. For example, recycled fabrics reduce waste and conserve resources, while natural dyes are made from fully renewable materials such as plants or insects
  • Improved worker conditions: Many eco-friendly fabrics are produced using fair labor practices that ensure workers are paid fairly and work in safe conditions. This is in contrast to conventional fabrics, which are often produced using exploitative labor practices
  • Better for your health: Eco-friendly fabrics and natural dyes are often free from harmful chemicals and toxins that can be found in conventional fabrics. This means that they are better for your health and the health of the planet
  • Reduced energy cost: Every Year over a Trillion Kwh are spent on Manufacturing 60 Billion pounds of textiles. To make that energy it would take burning around 1 trillion pounds of coal. This makes using vintage or overstock garments as a source for fabric extremally ecofriendly because it lessens the demand to manufacture and keeps clothes out of the land fill.

At You The Brave, we believe that upcycling is one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly ways to produce clothing. By repurposing existing materials, we reduce waste and minimize our impact on the environment. This is important to us To highlight because some brands may claim to be sustainable Because they use organic fabric. Being Organic does not stop them from overproducing, using machines that use inorganic oils or from taking advantage of their workers. There is no partial suitability, here are 3 types of eco-friendly fabrics that we use:

  • Upcycled denim: We source vintage 501 levis and repurpose it into new clothing items, reducing waste and conserving resources
  • Recycled fabrics: We use recycled fabrics, such as military surplus , to create new clothing items. This reduces waste and conserves resources by breathing new life into perfectly good material
  • Vintage Overstock: Due to cooperate greed Fashion Brands will Produce garments in massive quantities to keep costs down. Often there will be 100s if not 1000s of unsold garments that sit unsold until they are thrown to the land fill. We like to use vintage overstock because the fabric is better quality and not plastic

By choosing eco-friendly fabrics and natural dyes, we can create a more sustainable and ethical fashion industry that benefits both people and the planet.
